The Wilkes School
A coeducational day school for children age 3 through grade 5, The Wilkes School celebrates the joy of learning and teaching. Small classes, specialized faculty, rigorous academics, cross-curricular thematic units, and mixed grade homerooms distinguish the grades-2-through-5 program.
The Wilkes School offers the warmth and personal attention of a small school, plus the exhilaration and enrichment of Baltimore's Mt. Vernon neighborhood. Our students are bright, caring, fun, and enthusiastic; our teachers recognize students' individuality and support their success.
Wilkes School academic programs integrate traditional practices with proven, innovative strategies. They structure the acquisition of content knowledge and provide engaging contexts to guide inquiry. Most important, they foster critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving skills.
Our graduates matriculate to premier middle schools throughout the Baltimore area.
The Wilkes School shares its rich history, strong foundation, and commitment to diversity with Grace and St. Peter's Church (1802) and Grace and St. Peter's School (1946-2010), from which it evolved. Bound by a shared commitment to diversity, we are one of Baltimore's most welcoming school communities.
